Run Talk Run
In October 2017 I was depressed. I was living and working in London, and completely unaware of how much I’d isolated myself. I was taking anti-depressants and going to therapy, but quite simply not getting better. I was escaping home to East Sussex… a lot. Mum was dragging me out to run on my weekends at home and I found that (much like having a few pints on a Friday night) running was allowing me to open up with fewer inhibitions.
It made talking about my mental health less scary. I decided we needed more spaces like this.
So I created Run Talk Run!
Every week I was consumed with fear as I went to the meeting point. For the first 6 months, more often than not, no one would show up. BUT, the fear of someone in need showing up to run and me not being there, was enough of a drive to stay consistent.
Fast forward three years later, we are now a global community of over 100 weekly support groups. Our gentle 5km jogs facilitate a safe space to seek support in a non-intimidating environment… all whilst getting the benefits of movement too!
I see the effects that running and talking has on people’s confidence. I see the transformation that hosting a Run Talk Run can have on someone’s life. The aim is to help as many people build the confidence they need to go and do ALL THE EPIC SHIT they want to do.
